Description

A remarkable tale opens with the simultaneous births of two boys on a bustling London day in the 16th century. One arrives in the opulent Tudor household, hailed as a future prince, while the other, Tom Canty, is born into a cramped, squalid alley of the city’s poorest. The whole nation erupts in celebration for the noble infant, yet Tom’s arrival barely stirs the ragged crowd that surrounds his modest family.

The story swiftly shifts to Tom’s early years, painting a vivid picture of life in the narrow, winding streets of Offal Court. Amid rickety timber houses, soot‑blackened walls, and cramped rooms shared with his lively sisters, Tom navigates a world of hardship, mischief, and the occasional flicker of hope. This contrasting beginning sets the stage for an unlikely encounter that will test the boundaries of identity, destiny, and the societies that shape them.

Best known for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, this sharp-witted American writer turned life along the Mississippi River into stories that still feel lively, funny, and startlingly modern.
