Description

Polly Brewster has spent her whole life on a wide-open ranch, so when a plush Pullman whiskes her away from Denver she is dazzled by the smooth ride, the elegant dining car and the sheer comfort of traveling in a world she never imagined. Accompanied by her lively friend Eleanor and their teacher Miss Stewart, she marvels at the bustling stations, the crowded streets of Chicago, and the promise of a city that seems to pulse with endless activity.

Reaching New York, the group settles into a modest hotel near Grand Central and quickly learns that finding a home in the metropolis is a race against time. With school starting in October and apartments already snapped up months earlier, Polly must navigate the fast‑paced rhythm of the city, meet the kindly Evans family, and adapt to a life far removed from the quiet plains. Her wide‑eyed curiosity and the support of her companions turn each new challenge into a small adventure, hinting at the many discoveries that await her in the towering streets of the “Great White Way.
