Description

A newly‑wed couple rides a creaking wagon across the Kansas prairie, their destination a place called Perfection City. The bride’s eyes widen at the rough, mud‑splattered road and the promise of a modest hill‑top home, while her husband Ezra tries to keep the humor in the odd name from spilling over into disappointment. Their first steps into the settlement reveal a tight‑knit community built around a modest academy and the imposing house of the charismatic Madame Morozoff‑Smith.

Around them, colorful neighbors—a bright‑eyed boy named Napoleon Pompey, his mischievous puppy, and a chorus of settlers—welcome the newcomers with a mix of warmth and frontier pragmatism. As the bride marvels at nail‑keg chairs and the simple beauty of prairie life, she senses both the freedom and the hidden pressures of a town striving for an elusive ideal. The story unfolds with gentle humor and a quiet curiosity about how this “perfect” experiment will test their hopes and relationships.
