Una Grosvenor, known among her friends as Pemrose Lorry, is a bright‑eyed Camp Fire Girl who greets each dawn as if it were a new song. Her mornings begin in a sprawling garden where she talks to blossoms, transplants shy Quaker Ladies, and measures the sunrise with a whimsical flower clock. Amid the chatter of insects and the gentle hum of a nearby aëroplane, she feels the world humming with possibility.
Beyond the garden, Pemrose discovers a battered crystal set and a modest transmitter, sparking a fascination with radio that soon rivals her love of flowers. She learns to send simple Morse taps, listening for distant voices that drift over the countryside, and shares her findings with the other Camp Fire members who gather around the campfire evenings. As the town hints at the approaching war, her new hobby promises a bridge between home comforts and the wider world, inviting curious listeners to join her in each crackle of adventure.
