Description

A weary sailor finally steps back onto English soil, driven by the promise of a warm reunion with his forgiving mother after years of wandering the seas. The winter night finds him on a rattling coach, the only spare berth perched beside a talkative driver who spins tales of the local folk and hints at hidden connections in the town of B—. As the coach claws through the bleak, windswept moorland, Will’s mind drifts between anticipation and the uneasy feeling that familiar grounds may hold unfamiliar secrets.

Inside the modest home of the late general’s widow, whispers of a distant estate and a steadfast, enigmatic lady named Maryann stir curiosity. Old acquaintances surface, marriage proposals are turned down, and a lingering grief over a runaway son hangs heavy over the household. Will senses that his return may unearth long‑buried loyalties and spark new entanglements, setting the stage for a journey that blends personal redemption with the tangled dynamics of a close‑knit community.
