ΛΕΛΑ — ΜΑΡΙΚΑ ΚΟΤΟΠΟΥΛΗ.
In a sun‑washed Greek spa town of the early 1900s, the hotel’s airy lounge buzzes with clinking glasses, fresh flowers on the tables, and the soft murmur of guests drifting between rooms. At its centre sits Tasso Fleury, a fifty‑five‑year‑old lawyer whose lined face and prematurely white hair betray a lifetime of weary routine. He idles in a rocking chair, half‑reading a newspaper, half‑sipping a green liqueur, while the scent of tobacco curls around his thoughts.
Around him swirl a colourful cast: his teenage daughter Doro, the poised yet frail Vera—the echo of a past romance—free‑spirited friend Lela, and the newly arrived house‑servant Bar‑Margyris, a man in his sixties whose gruff humour cuts through the stale air. Their conversations bounce between jokes about seasons, whispered grievances, and the subtle power plays of a small community that feels both intimate and confining.
When Fleury muses about returning to Athens, a restless yearning begins to crack the veneer of his comfortable stagnation. The first act hints at a fragile balance that may soon tip, setting the stage for a drama that will unravel his bonds in three distinct parts.
