Description

Nick Carter arrives in a snow‑blanketed Boston with a tiny glass vial found in the drifts, the only clue that leads him to the opulent Rogers mansion in Dorchester. The grieving son, Samuel Rogers Jr., insists his father’s sudden death, officially attributed to heart disease, was anything but natural. A threatening note arrives, warning that the murderer is “nearer home,” and Carter’s keen eye begins to sift through the somber household, questioning the doctor’s haste and a mysterious servant’s silence.

As the great detective inspects the corpse, he notices an odd gray hue to the skin and a faint scent that hints at foul play. The vial he pocketed earlier may hold the key to unraveling a concealed crime, while the family’s secrets start to surface. Carter’s methodical probing promises to expose the hidden threat lurking beneath the respectable façade of the Rogers family.
