Description

On the windswept slopes of North Wales, near the coastal village of Llanwyllan, sits a modest farmhouse framed by blooming clematis, roses and the scent of honeysuckle. One sweltering summer evening a dust‑caked stranger arrives, his fine features and cultured accent hinting at a world far beyond the humble road. Farmer Powis, ever courteous, offers him shade, a seat, and a spread of cold meat, fresh fruit and home‑made wine. The scene is painted with birdsong and the gentle hush of twilight, setting a warm yet mysterious tone.

Yet the traveler’s eyes betray a lingering sorrow, and his quiet inquiries suggest he seeks more than simple refreshment. He learns of Powis’s daughter, a young woman who favors the neighboring curate’s house, and the subtle tensions that swirl between duty and desire. As the night deepens, whispered conversations and the fragrant garden become the backdrop for a tale of hidden connections and unforeseen confidences, promising intrigue that will unfold beyond the tranquil porch.
