Description

A young man tells his story from the very first breath, tracing a lineage tangled with war and loss. His mother, the daughter of a fallen soldier, became a servant in a wealthy farmer’s home, where a forbidden friendship blossomed into a secret romance that brought him into the world. Their union sparks tension and scandal, thrusting the family into a precarious position that shapes his earliest memories.

Raised amid the rough rhythms of a laborer’s life, he learns the harsh realities of servitude in a foreign land. Though bound by duty and poverty, he clings to honesty, prayer, and a fierce desire for independence. The narrative captures the clash between personal dignity and the oppressive structures of his time, offering a vivid portrait of perseverance and hope in the face of relentless hardship.
