MOUNTAIN MEN - CHAPTER I. POACHER’S LUCK.
CHAPTER II. BROUGHT TO TRIAL.
CHAPTER III. MOUNTAIN JUSTICE.
Set against the stark pine‑crowned canyons of Lincoln County, the story opens on a bitter dawn where rival ranches teeter on the edge of violence. Bud Ranger, a hot‑tempered son of the Ranger family, watches the river below while spitting accusations at the prosperous Lingo clan, whose daughter Sudie May has long haunted his thoughts. The feud over a petty money dispute already threatens to split families, and the rugged landscape mirrors the clash of pride and longing.
In the opening chase Bud and his brother Brother tumble down a steep slope, their hunt turning chaotic when a buck crashes and Brother’s leg becomes wedged in a rock crevice. As Bud fights to free his brother with only a pocketknife and raw determination, the tension of the mountains presses in, hinting at deeper loyalties and dangerous choices. Listeners are drawn into a world where survival, honor, and forbidden love collide on the frontier’s unforgiving edge.

Best known for fast-moving Westerns, he also wrote mystery and sea stories, giving his work a wider range than the frontier label suggests. His nonfiction book Triggernometry helped keep the legends of Old West gunfighters in print for later readers.
