In the cold reaches of space, a battered freighter hovers at the edge of a treacherous hyperspatial corridor known as the Slot. When Kelly’s careless generosity—handing out war manuals to the planet’s laborers—threatens to ignite unexpected resistance, the crew must decide whether to abort their risky jump or face the consequences of their unintended interference. The story balances tense space navigation with the fragile balance of power on a world teetering on the brink.
