Description

In the early days of 1919, Miss Lucile Wollaston runs a quiet household with a blend of propriety and lingering nostalgia. When her younger brother, Dr. John Wollaston, breezes in from a night‑long medical vigil, his effortless charm and polished manners mask a restless mind. Their breakfast conversation drifts from polite pleasantries to a folded letter—Mary’s handwriting—lying beside his plate, hinting at an unresolved tension.

John, a rising specialist in gynecology and surgery, exerts a magnetic pull on his daughter Mary, whose early assumption of household duties after her mother’s death has bound her tightly to his world. Lucile senses a hidden ache in his reaction to the letter, a discomfort that hints at deeper family secrets. As the siblings probe each other’s histories, the stage is set for a delicate unraveling of loyalty, ambition, and the shadows that linger behind genteel facades.
