Description

A huge gilt‑lettered shield dominates Regent Street, proclaiming “De Alarmkreet – Independent Organ for Justice and Truth.” Beneath its flashing electric trompet the building hides a cramped, scarcely furnished office where a shy teenager guards the entrance, answering every inquiry with only the names of two absent editors. The mysterious atmosphere invites curious passers‑by to wonder who really runs the paper and why they shun direct contact.

Each week the shoddily printed newspaper slips into the hands of a small circle of Londoners, promising scandalous revelations that paint the city’s elite in darker shades. When the latest issue attacks the celebrated adventurer John Raffles, his friends and a returning aristocrat named Lord Lister find themselves pulled into a tangled web of gossip, hidden motives, and reluctant truth‑seeking. The story follows their uneasy pursuit of the real story behind the sensational headlines, all while the enigmatic young messenger keeps the newsroom’s secrets close to his chest.
