Little Susan and her lamb
LITTLE SUSAN
On a bright summer morning, Susan enjoys a simple breakfast outside her cottage while thinking about the reward book she received for faithful attendance at Sunday school. Thoughtful, diligent, and eager to live according to her Christian lessons, she is especially moved by the teaching that people should show mercy to every living creature.
When a weary lamb collapses beside her, Susan begs its owner to let her care for it. She gently warms and feeds the nearly helpless animal, rejoicing when it begins to recover, then asks her mother for permission to keep it safely behind the cottage. Though Susan must work each day, she never forgets her little companion, and the lamb soon learns to come whenever she calls. This tender story encourages young listeners to practice kindness, responsibility, gratitude, and compassion toward animals and all of God’s creation.
