Greta awakens each morning with a hopeful stretch, dreaming of growing tall like the queen who bears her name. Living on a spacious brick farm in Denmark, she shares her days with a lively terrier named Chouse and a bustling barn full of horses, cows, and pigs. The newest members of her family are four tiny kittens, whose soft straw nest sits safely in a corner of the barn, and Greta’s heart swells with the joy of caring for them before school.
When Greta rushes to the barn one crisp morning, the kittens are gone, and panic replaces her usual cheerfulness. Tears well up as she enlists her older brother Hans, who promises to help her search after school. Together they face the mystery of the missing kittens amid the hum of farm life, learning that responsibility and perseverance can turn a frightened little girl into a brave caretaker.
