Description

In the glittering yet precarious world of the French regency, a young Spanish‑Italian courtier named Sciarra d’Alvimar captivates everyone who meets him. With a youthful face that belies his declared age, he moves through the palace with a blend of elegance, linguistic flair and a sharp, witty conversation that charms both ladies and learned men alike. Beneath his polished exterior lies a fervent Catholic zeal and a restless ambition that drives him to seek a place among the most influential figures of the court.

Caught in the shifting alliances surrounding Marie de Médicis, Sciarra attempts to navigate a maze of favors, betrayals and secret plots. He dreams of replacing powerful patrons, yet the relentless machinations of figures like Concini constantly thwart his designs. As the queen’s standing wanes and dangerous conspiracies surface, Sciarra must decide whether to cling to his ideals or surrender to the ruthless currents of power that swirl through the gilded halls of Versailles.
