Description

Charley Norton finds himself stuck on a creaking mail boat slicing through the icy waters off Labrador’s rugged coast. The October wind whips snow across the deck, while the cramped cabins stink of stale tobacco and ship‑board grime, leaving him restless and yearning for any distraction. A chance greeting from Barney, the genial second engineer, offers a brief spark of camaraderie, but the endless gray horizon and bitter cold remind Charley that the voyage is far from a leisurely cruise.

Soon the vessel’s fragile routine is shattered by a series of unsettling incidents—a broken oar, a sudden collision with hidden rocks, and the eerie disappearance of a fellow passenger. As the crew scrambles to keep the boat afloat, Charley is thrust into a world of relentless wilderness, where wolves stalk the ice, frozen rivers guard hidden dangers, and the promise of a safe harbour seems ever more distant. The early leg of the journey sets the stage for a rugged adventure that will test his courage, resourcefulness, and the bonds forged amid the unforgiving north.
