Description

The story opens on a quiet spring day in Paris, where the secret wedding of Robert Darzac and Mathilde Stangerson takes place in the dim, cracked walls of Saint‑Nicolas‑du‑Chardonnet. Even as the couple exchanges vows, the lingering memory of the famous Yellow‑Room mystery hangs over the ceremony, its unresolved tensions echoing through the dusty pews. The narrator’s detailed description of the church’s gloom and the murmurs of the few trusted guests creates a palpable sense of foreboding that hints at trouble just beyond the altar.

Soon, the celebrated young reporter‑detective Joseph Rouletabille appears, drawn into the celebration by his friends Henri‑Robert and André Hesse. Their conversation reveals that the specter of an old enemy may still be at large, and an enigmatic perfume begins to circulate among the guests, suggesting a new, subtle danger. Listeners are invited to follow Rouletabille as he untangles fresh clues while the shadows of past crimes loom ever larger.
