Description

The story opens under a bruised twilight, as the corsair Oiseau‑de‑Nuit slips silently from the harbor of Saint‑Pierre. Guided only by moonlight and the steady eye of a lone officer, the vessel glides through the night with a precision that feels almost supernatural. Its enigmatic commander, known only as the Invisible, commands respect through quiet authority, while twenty gleaming cannons catch the faint lunar glow. The crew moves in disciplined silence, each quarter‑watch marked by the soft toll of the ship’s bell.

In the midst of this eerie tableau sails the Banian, a newly‑joined sailor whose curiosity drives him to watch the captain’s every motion. He daringly approaches the mysterious leader, noting the elegant redingote and the soft leather cap, only to be rebuked by a vigilant officer. As midnight chimes and a secret council is summoned to the captain’s private cabin, tension builds and the Banian finds himself caught between obedience and the urge to uncover what lies beneath the ship’s calm surface.
