Description

The opening places us in the gilded gallery of the Capulet palace in Verona, a twilight‑lit expanse where marble stairs descend toward a garden watched over by twin statues. A Byzantine chapel glows with the silver light of a Virgin’s image, while arches and columns frame the distant horizon. The scene is rendered in richly poetic Catalan‑Spanish, evoking a sense of lingering night that refuses to give way to day, and sets a sumptuous, almost theatrical backdrop for the drama about to unfold.

Within this luminous yet shadowed setting, the young lovers Julieta and Romeu meet, their dialogue flowing like a song of albatrosses and nightingales. Their words are a cascade of tender metaphors, each declaration of love tangled with the urgency of departing dawn. The pair cling to one another, bargaining for just a moment longer as the first light threatens to break their night‑bound intimacy, hinting at the passionate conflict that will drive the story forward.
