In a stately Milanese mansion, the aging industrialist Werle prepares for a lavish dinner that will bring together his son Gregorio, the photographer Erminio Ekdal and a host of curious guests. Behind the polished décor, servants whisper about past scandals, prison sentences and broken fortunes, hinting that the evening’s polished surface may conceal more than just polite conversation. The old Ekdal, once a respected lieutenant turned indebted entrepreneur, arrives under the cover of night, clutching a bundle of mysterious papers that promise to stir old grievances.
The comedy unfolds as characters clash over money, ambition and family expectations, while witty banter and sharp observations expose the absurdities of early‑twentieth‑century high society. Listeners will be drawn into a world where business deals and personal loyalties intertwine, and where the slightest misstep could turn a seemingly ordinary gathering into a chaotic comedy of errors.

A master of modern drama, this Norwegian playwright reshaped the stage with fearless, realistic plays that challenged social rules and private hypocrisies. His work still feels startlingly alive in classics like A Doll’s House, Ghosts, and Hedda Gabler.
