Description

Set against the sweeping plains of the Dakotas and Nebraska, the story follows George Williston, a hard‑bitten rancher trying to keep his modest operation afloat. Pressured from both ends—an increasingly powerful cattle baron who threatens to swallow independent growers, and a ruthless band of rustlers who stalk the open range—Williston’s daily grind is a relentless fight for survival. When a small herd marked with a lazy “S” disappears, the stakes rise, forcing him to chase clues across unforgiving terrain.

Venturing farther than ever before, Williston and his stubborn pony Battle Ax crest a bleak bluff and stumble upon a hidden stretch of the Missouri River that glitters like a secret highway at sunset. Beyond the water lies an uncharted island, its quiet mystery promising answers and new dangers alike. As the sun sinks, the rancher faces a choice: turn back to familiar hardships or press on into the unknown, where the line between myth and reality blurs.
