Description

Allyn the Numan trudges across the blistering Graysand Desert, his lone flame gun flickering against a horde of snarling, gray‑skinned rat beasts. When a wounded Olman lies half‑dead in the sand, Allyn drags him to a hidden crevice, tending the wound with a torn strip of his own cloak while the danger still looms behind. Their uneasy truce is forged in the heat of survival, but tension crackles as the Olman blames the Numan’s people for cruel experiments, and Allyn reveals his own exile from the Logician‑dominated cities.

Both strangers carry secrets that could topple the rigid order of the Numan civilization. Allyn, branded a heretic for defying the rigid laws of his kind, hints at a hidden rebellion and a forbidden love that led to his banishment. The Olman, driven by vengeance and curiosity, sees a chance to strike back against the mysterious Nyloplast domes that protect the Logicians. Their uneasy alliance promises a perilous journey beyond the flame‑lit horizon, where loyalty, betrayal, and the promise of a different future hang in the scorching air.

About the author

EG

Evelyn Goldstein

A little-known voice from 1950s science fiction, this writer published stories that mixed big speculative ideas with a noticeably human touch. Her surviving work still feels curious, intimate, and slightly offbeat in the best way.
