Description

The poet emerges from the grim waters of the Inferno, his ship now steering toward a brighter horizon. Guided by the steadfast Virgil, he catches sight of a luminous island crowned by the gentle slopes of a mountain that promises cleansing and renewal. The air is fresh, the dawn soft, and the landscape hints at a realm where souls begin to shed their sins.

Soon they encounter an austere, bearded guardian who questions the pilgrim’s purpose and points toward the path of penitence. He explains that Purgatory is a place of disciplined ascent, where the spirit is purified through humble effort and divine love. The encounter sets the tone for a journey of gradual transformation, inviting listeners to follow the steps of those who seek redemption before the final ascent to the heavens.
