Description

Set against the glittering backdrop of Berlin’s Italian Opera in Frederick the Great’s reign, the story opens with a tableau of regal spectacle and rigid hierarchy. The king himself watches from the orchestra pit, his presence turning a night‑time performance into a display of power, while soldiers, diplomats and aristocrats fill the boxes in a carefully ordered tableau. Amid this pomp, the celebrated Voltaire drifts through the audience, his famed wit tinged with growing disillusionment as the Prussian court proves less enlightened than he imagined.

Into this world of music, pomp, and intellectual rivalry steps a young countess whose keen observations and restless spirit hint at a yearning for something beyond courtly decorum. Her encounters with the king’s entourage and the restless philosophers spark a subtle clash between personal desire and the expectations of a society that treats art as a tool of rule. As the carnival masks tumble and the opera’s drama unfolds, the countess begins to navigate the delicate dance of influence, love, and self‑discovery, promising a tale as intricate as the music that surrounds her.
