Description

A compact anthology gathers together a handful of lively short pieces, some brought over from abroad and others penned right here. The opening story follows a weary young aristocrat who has exhausted the pleasures of Paris, rail journeys and lavish hotels, only to find himself drifting toward a quieter, more uncertain life in Copenhagen. Alongside his melancholy, a bustling marketplace scene erupts with colourful vendors shouting for sand, peas and fresh milk, while a shy flower‑selling girl catches the eye of a curious passerby.

The collection also includes witty sketches by well‑known humorists, offering sharp observations of everyday customs, modest desires and the occasional absurdity of social pretence. Listeners can expect crisp dialogue, vivid period details and a gentle blend of satire and sentiment that captures the flavour of late‑nineteenth‑century life in both familiar and foreign settings.
