Their conversations reveal a community eager for news, education, and the excitement of new ideas.

When Olli, a travelling timber merchant, arrives with a bundle of promised books from Helsinki, the household sees a chance to turn the humble reading room into a proper library for the whole village. Together with neighbors such as the diligent Enomatti and the lively village youth, they begin to organize a reading society that could reshape life in their isolated settlement.
