A small Finnish community wrestles with the problem of finding a new site for their cooperative dairy. Meetings drag on, arguments flare, and old meeting places fall into disuse, while the current makeshift facilities grow increasingly inadequate. The villagers’ frustrations mount as milk prices slump and equipment breaks down, turning daily work into a series of mishaps and complaints.
Amid the turmoil, a proposal emerges to locate the new dairy in Savukylä, a village that seems to offer better transport links, ample water, and a more central position. The idea gradually wins over even the most skeptical residents, though a few from Mallikylä cling to their opposition. With the community finally reaching a tentative consensus, a crucial gathering is scheduled for early March, where a consultant will be asked to confirm the chosen spot.
The story captures the tension between tradition and progress, the stubbornness of local politics, and the hopeful anticipation that a single decision might finally bring the long‑awaited stability to Heinäranna’s dairy.
