Description

A seasoned lawyer steps into the marble‑clad reception of a storied New York firm, the air thick with the lingering presence of a once‑revered judge. The protagonist, fresh from law school and haunted by the legacy of his mentor, finds himself waiting for a corporate partner while a striking young woman, Miss McVail, sits beside an elderly clerk. Her cold, unreadable eyes and the whispered talk of a family inheritance set an uneasy tone that hints at deeper entanglements.

As the waiting turns into a tense tableau of old furnishings and quiet conversations, the lawyer senses a clash between the firm’s rigid traditions and a newer, more personal justice. The mysterious inheritance dispute that has brought Miss McVail to the office promises to pull the protagonist into a case that challenges his loyalties, his past, and his understanding of what true justice might look like.
