Description

In the glittering yet fragile world of Louis XV’s Versailles, a king more concerned with personal pleasures than statecraft watches his court swirl with ambition and intrigue. His devout elder daughter, Madame Louise, retreats to the convent, leaving a void that a charismatic outsider, Jeanne Dubarry, is eager to fill. Born of humble streets but endowed with striking beauty and wit, Dubarry navigates the labyrinthine etiquette to secure a foothold among the aristocracy.

As the dauphin prepares to marry the Austrian archduchess—an alliance that could reshape France’s future—Dubarry sees an opportunity to become the king’s indispensable confidante. Rivalries flare among the queen’s circle, the ministerial sisters, and the ambitious countess, each maneuvering for the king’s favor. The novel captures the tense dance of power, desire, and survival that defines the first act of this lavish historical saga.
