Description

On a breezy Monday just before Christmas, the Robbins household buzzes with the arrival of a pink express card that promises something hefty – and perhaps a snowstorm before nightfall. Jean darts home, her mind racing with curiosity as the mailman hints at a mysterious delivery. Inside, Kit shoves flour‑dusted hands into the kitchen, joking about a promised silver‑fox skin from a wandering suitor. The family’s chatter mixes practical chores with the thrill of an unknown parcel waiting to be opened.

Meanwhile, the sisters fill the dining room with potted ferns, geraniums and tiny pine saplings, turning the space into a green sanctuary against the encroaching cold. Their banter about art, school, and the purpose of expression reveals deep friendships and a playful rivalry, especially when Kit teases Jean about sending a letter to Bab Crane. As the wind howls outside and the first flakes begin to fall, the girls prepare wreaths and mince pies, unaware that the mysterious bundle may set them on a small adventure beyond the farm’s familiar borders.
