On the edge of the Wolf River in rural Wisconsin, Mrs. Jamieson runs a modest boarding house that masks a far more dangerous past. Once a partner of the secretive engineers who invented a tiny Konv cylinder—a device that can instantaneously move a person through space—she fled the murder of her husband in Bangkok and settled in anonymity. A faint scar behind her ear hints at the hidden cylinder embedded under her skin, a relic of a covert program few still remember.
Even as she quietly welcomes fishermen and rents out cabins, the memory of the Agents who killed her husband haunts her. When a uniformed Agent inadvertently reveals his badge, she reacts with deadly calm, realizing that vengeance must wait for her teenage son, Earl, who carries the same concealed power. As Earl begins to manifest the strange ability, mother and son find themselves poised on the brink of a dangerous reckoning.
