Description

Jack Heaton is the kind of restless, quick‑wit fellow who can’t sit still for long. Fresh from a stint in Mexico and a tidy sum from an oil company, he finds himself back in Manhattan, invited by his old friend Bill’s mother into a modest but hopeful apartment overlooking the Hudson. Their banter masks a deeper hunger for something bigger, and when Bill mentions a daring Amazon venture, Jack steers the conversation northward, hinting at a wild new venture.

Together they plot a trek into the Alaskan wilderness, drawn by rumors of lost gold hidden among the frozen crags. The story captures the raw excitement of early‑twentieth‑century prospecting—snow‑shoe mishaps, colorful characters, and the rugged camaraderie that forms when men chase a glittering dream. As Jack prepares his gear, listeners can feel the crisp air, the creak of sleds, and the promise of untold riches just beyond the horizon.
