Description

In the tumultuous courts of 16th‑century Russia, a child ascends to the throne before he can even read. Ivan IV, known as the Terrible, inherits a fractured realm and a cadre of scheming tutors who shape his fierce temperament. The novel follows his early triumphs—capturing Kazan and Astrakhan—and his bold attempts to draw Russia toward the West, while also hinting at the shadows that will later define his reign.

The narrative weaves meticulous research with vivid storytelling, turning archival detail into living drama. Readers hear the clashing of swords, the whispered counsel of priests and advisors, and the crackle of the first Russian printing press. Through richly drawn characters and stark battlefield scenes, the story captures both Ivan’s visionary reforms and the growing paranoia that begins to tighten around his court.
