Description

A modest, dimly lit bedroom becomes the stage for a quietly tense gathering, where the frail Lucio Saffi lies in bed, his fevered breaths echoing the anxiety of those surrounding him. Doctor Felsani, a venerable but weary physician, offers his measured counsel while Giovanni, a vigorous young painter, reads a cryptic letter that hints at hidden resentments. Their conversations are punctuated by Nora, a delicate piano teacher, whose soft voice and fragile disposition add a layer of vulnerability to the scene.

From this intimate opening, the drama unfolds into a study of masks—social, moral, and personal—that its characters wear in a provincial town hungry for acclaim. Ambition, faith, and the yearning for recognition clash as the ensemble navigates love, deceit, and the promise of a triumph that may prove far more complex than it first appears. The play balances melancholy with sharp wit, inviting listeners to ponder what it truly means to triumph in a world of pretenses.
