Description

In the fog‑shrouded streets of 1911 London, a quiet village doctor’s sudden death is declared a natural tragedy, yet a hushed conversation in a study suggests something far darker. Philip Poland, a stern‑looking clergyman, is confronted by the flamboyant Arnold Du Cane, who insists the corpse’s cigar was laced with poison and that the truth is being buried. Their terse exchange reveals a tangled web of hidden affairs, a threatened young woman, and a community poised to accept a false hero.

The intrigue deepens as each character wrestles with loyalty, ambition, and the fear of scandal spilling into the tight‑knit parish. Listeners will be drawn into the sharp dialogue, the looming threat of a secret that could ruin reputations, and the question of who will finally break the silence. The first act sets a tense, atmospheric stage for a classic London mystery, promising twists that stay just beyond the candlelight.
