Description

In this eclectic volume listeners are invited into a tapestry of 19th‑century verse and prose that shifts effortlessly between translation and original composition. The collection opens with daring poems that wrestle with love, mortality and the search for divine proof, moving from the fervent Spanish verses of Quevedo to a solemn meditation on God’s presence in nature. Interlaced are playful odes to Cupid, pastoral dialogues, and a fable‑like sketch that echo the salon culture of Victorian England.

The tonal range is striking: one moment a passionate lover declares his readiness for death, the next a shy pilgrim greets the inevitable with quiet smile. Short, vivid images of crumbling ramparts, whispering trees, and fluttering butterflies create a vivid sensory backdrop, while philosophical interludes pose questions about faith and fate. Listeners will appreciate the rhythmic variety and the way each piece feels like a brief, intimate performance, making the whole work a rewarding journey through poetry’s many moods.
