Description

Set on a bright summer day in the grand yet modest Alho manor, the play opens in a sun‑lit hall where Selma tends her garden pots while the household basks in quiet routine. The arrival of Liisi Blom, a young widow returning from the city, instantly disturbs the calm, as she bursts in with familiar jokes and a lingering sense of mystery. Through their banter, old friendships and unspoken histories surface, hinting at deeper ties among the family and the surrounding village.

As the conversation shifts between tea, memories of a past summer, and unasked questions, the listeners sense a subtle power play between the matriarch Selma and the confident Liisi. Meanwhile, the estate’s other residents—Hemmo the landowner, his wife Elvi, the loyal farmhand Mikko and his shy daughter Hilja—observe the exchange, each carrying their own secrets. The first act sets a tone of gentle humor laced with anticipation, promising a compelling exploration of loyalty, love, and the burden of hidden truths.
