Description

Captain Hemming stands at the crossroads of duty and desire, a disciplined officer whose polished boots and tidy quarters mask a lingering restlessness. The story opens in a Dover‑like Dublin flat, where a seasoned colonel, half‑heartedly cigarette‑smoking, nudges Hemming toward an unexpected resignation. As the twilight deepens, a tumble of printed pages—titled “The Colonel and the Lady”—catches the captain’s eye, hinting at a literary mystery that could reshape his future.

Soon Hemming is drawn into a web of curious meetings: a baffling reception from a shadowy syndicate manager, the sudden arrival of the charismatic Mr. O’Rourke and his enigmatic servant, and whispered rumors of a looming villain. Each encounter peels back another layer of Hemming’s world, revealing a blend of military precision and a yearning for adventure. Listeners will feel the pull of duty versus the lure of the unknown, as Hemming steps beyond familiar drill grounds into the first tremors of a larger, unpredictable quest.
