Description

In a small Finnish parish where every farmer’s voice is weighed against the interests of the wealthier landowners, a crucial meeting is called to decide where the new cooperative dairy will stand. The summons reaches even the most remote farms, yet many expect the decisions to be handed down by the men of Heinäranta and Mallikylä, whose influence already shapes the community. As the chilly November day unfolds, two of the region’s most outspoken heads of household—Anaski from Sipilli and Ulrikki from Mäenpää—prepare to argue over the site, each aware that the choice will ripple through the lives of everyone who depends on the dairy’s success.

The discussion quickly moves from polite chatter to sharp debate, with promises of free land, competing offers, and the persuasive words of a hired consultant adding fuel to the fire. Listeners are drawn into the rustic atmosphere, hearing the clatter of coffee pots, the rustle of scarves, and the undercurrent of rivalry that defines rural cooperation at a pivotal moment.
