Description

Set against the turbulent days of the Paris Commune, this short story opens with a quiet stroll through the Bois de Boulogne, where a young girl named Claudine catches the narrator’s eye. Her modest beauty and the elegant backdrop of the Rue de Rivoli create a vivid picture of pre‑war Parisian life. The narrative swiftly shifts as the city erupts in fire and gunfire, pulling the family into the chaos of siege and rebellion.

Through Claudine’s eyes we feel the claustrophobic tension of a family hidden behind boarded windows, hearing the crackle of flames and the distant roar of artillery. The father’s desperate gamble to glimpse the burning palace and the sudden intrusion of insurgents paint a stark portrait of survival instincts colliding with duty. The story balances delicate observations of everyday life with the urgency of a city on the brink, offering listeners a poignant glimpse of courage amid historic upheaval.
