Description

Aboard the sturdy barque Lord Nelson, a curious lady and her retinue set out for a daring glimpse beneath the decks where hardened convicts are held. Their guide, the meticulous police agent Mr. Gillett, balances polite intrigue with a hint of warning, while the ship’s formidable captain, Macpherson, watches their every move with a gruff, seasoned eye. The tension between polite society and the raw world of the penal colony creates a vivid portrait of turn‑of‑the‑century travel.

As the vessel cuts through restless seas, the passengers—an aristocratic lady, a nervous young girl with golden hair, and a cadre of officials—navigate both the ship’s strict hierarchy and the simmering unrest among the prisoners. Their first foray onto the prisoners’ deck promises a mix of uneasy fascination and subtle danger, setting the stage for a tale that blends adventure, social observation, and the stark realities of a world far from home.
