On a windswept ridge near Gothenburg, the aging widow Briitta Kron tends to her modest cottage, sharing its quiet days with her beautiful granddaughter, Agda. The pair live under the shadow of a looming war, yet their world is brightened by Agda’s secret romance with Granmar, a talented young smith whose reputation for forging weapons stretches far beyond the nearby Gullberg fortress. Their affection is a fragile thread, strained by Briitta’s disapproval and the uneasy peace of the late‑18th‑century countryside.

When word spreads that Danish forces are marching toward the town, panic grips the helpless community, which lacks any organized defence. In the midst of this dread, Granmar steps forward, offering the weapons from his forge to anyone willing to fight, and his bold promise ignites a surge of hope among the townsfolk. As the rally swells, Agda’s love for Granmar bursts into the open, clashing with her grandmother’s stern rebuke and setting the stage for a struggle that will test loyalty, courage, and the fate of their home.
