Description

In post‑Victorian London, a newly wealthy writer drifts through the city’s smoky clubs and quiet streets, savoring the freedom that sudden inheritance has bought him. One night, after a game of cards with his journalist friend, he wanders alone down Bedford Place, drawn by a haunting cry from an elegant townhouse that glows against the darkness. Peering through a gap in the curtains, he discovers a grisly tableau—a woman in a white evening dress lies motionless, her dress stained with fresh blood.

The unsettling scene pulls the narrator into a tangled web of secrets, where the polished façade of high society masks something far more sinister. As a shadowy figure slips past the doorway, the mystery deepens, hinting at hidden motives, rivalries, and a possible connection to the narrator’s own recent fortunes. Listeners are invited to follow his reluctant investigation, piecing together clues amid the fog‑filled alleys of London, before the night’s silence is shattered by the truth.
