CHAPTER VII
Georgina opens her memoir from a breezy harbor town, where the town crier’s bell rings over crooked streets and a patchwork of fishing gardens. From a garret window she watches sails, hears auctions, and feels the weight of the town’s layered history pressing against her imagination. The scene is vivid enough that she convinces herself she must one day capture it on paper, despite being only ten when the idea first sparked.
She explains her lineage as the granddaughter of a noted Kentucky editor, noting that storytelling flows in her blood while legal tomes dominate the other side of her family tree. Determined to record the private thoughts that might never see the light of day, she promises to seal them with red ink and a warning, hinting at the personal and larger conflicts that will soon pull her beyond the quiet streets she loves.
