Description

This listening experience gathers a remarkable set of short portraits from ancient China, each focusing on a different sage who chose a life of principle over prestige. From the humble weaver‑clad “被衣” who advises his disciple on inner harmony, to the steadfast philosopher‑king‑candidate 許由 who declines the throne, the stories reveal how these figures navigated the demands of rulers while keeping to their own moral compass.

The narratives are rendered in vivid dialogue, letting listeners hear the crisp exchanges that explore concepts of knowledge, virtue, and the nature of true leadership. As each character meets an emperor or a noble, the listener is invited to contemplate the timeless tension between personal integrity and public duty, making the collection a thoughtful journey through early Chinese thought.
