Description

In a remote corner of the Finnish wilderness, the lone Kärppävaaran homestead clings to the edge of a dark pine forest, its windows flickering with the faint glow of a dying fire. Snow‑covered roofs and the restless dance of the northern lights set a stark, almost magical backdrop for life in this isolated settlement. Inside, the hearth is barely a whisper, and the household drifts toward sleep as the winter night deepens.

Paavo and his younger brother Erkki, both orphaned boys, have been taken in by the stern owners of the house after their own family fell victim to the forest’s unforgiving grip. The couple who run the farm are known for their harshness, demanding relentless labor from the boys despite their tender ages. Yet the brothers carry an instinctive pull toward the woods, a yearning for freedom that clashes with the relentless expectations placed upon them.

As the cold intensifies and the boys return from a three‑day trek, the tension between their restless spirits and the owners’ iron‑fisted discipline begins to surface, hinting at a struggle that will test both loyalty and survival.
