Description

Lonny Higgens, a former Earth explorer, now pilots a hulking mud‑submarine through the thick, squirming seas of Uranus. His days consist of drifting beneath perpetual mist, hauling mud‑fish nets, and trying to keep the bizarre, insect‑like Baron Munchy from turning every routine dive into chaos. The pair’s banter—part rivalry, part uneasy friendship—lights the bleak, slime‑filled world, while mysterious whirl‑rays swirl ominously around their vessel.

When a sudden disturbance rattles the sub’s hull, Lonny is forced to abandon his lazy routine. The tangled nets, ripped apart by unseen forces, hint at a hidden danger lurking beneath the mud. Together with Baron Munchy and a resourceful young woman who promises to cook a feast from the planet’s odd bounty, Lonny must confront the strange ecology of this alien ocean before the planet’s own currents swallow them whole.

J. Harvey (John Harvey) Haggard

1912–2001

A pulp-era science fiction writer with a knack for big ideas, he began publishing as a teenager and filled early magazine stories with speed-of-light travel, strange planets, and cosmic adventure. His work belongs to the energetic, experimental years when science fiction was still inventing many of its favorite themes.
