Description

A gifted young singer named Consuelo catches the eye of the flamboyant Count Hoditz, a self‑styled impresario who insists on turning her raw talent into polished brilliance. Their first lessons are a mix of theatrical swagger and exacting technique, with the Count demanding flawless trills and daring ornaments while Consuelo matches his eccentricity with wit and determination. The intense training reveals both the promise of her voice and the demanding world of courtly music, where power and performance intertwine.

As Consuelo navigates the Count’s rigorous program, she discovers a broader stage beyond the palace walls—a journey that will lead her from intimate salons to the grand halls of Vienna. Along the way, she confronts the expectations of aristocratic patrons, the politics of artistic recognition, and the stirrings of personal desire. The novel follows her struggle to balance ambition with authenticity, offering a vivid portrait of a woman striving to define her own art amid a society eager to shape it.
