Description

At a modest dinner on Cheyne Walk, a small circle of friends gathers around the enigmatic Carnacki, a gentleman who spends his evenings cataloguing the uncanny. Their conversation drifts from polite banter to the promise of a new case, and the listener soon finds himself drawn into the investigator’s methodical world of shields and scientific curiosity. With a flick of his pipe, Carnacki begins to recount a letter that led him to a remote, centuries‑old manor plagued by a disturbing legend.

The manor’s most notorious feature is the sealed Grey Room, whose door is heard slamming shut in the dead of night despite being locked from the inside. Local servants speak of torn bedding and three tragic murders that occurred within its walls a century and a half ago, and they plead with the investigator to wait until daylight. Undeterred, Carnacki resolves to spend a night in the room, intent on confronting whatever force makes the door beat against its frame.
